PUBLIC MEETING REVIEW
Monday, May 12th, 2008

A public meeting was held on Monday, May 12, 2008, at the Railroaders Memorial Museum in Altoona. PennDOT District 9-0 officials and engineering consultants presented information on the scope of the Altoona Transportation Improvement Project (ATIP). At the present time, the Department is in the initial stages of the Needs Study for the 17th Street and Route 764 (6th and 7th Avenue) corridors in the City of Altoona.

Local residents, business owners, commuters and public officials were provided written information on the project and encouraged to complete a comment form on transportation problems and concerns in the study area. The comment form can also be completed and submitted on-line .

The Needs Study will identify and strive to build consensus on the transportation problems in the study area. Engineering, traffic and socioeconomic studies will be utilized to identify potential needs. Public input is an important part of the needs study. The input provided by the public will help identify needs that are qualitative in nature and will help confirm needs identified by the design team.

A Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) will be formed to help the Department with the Needs Study. The CAC is a group of diverse local officials, residents, business owners, interest groups and other stakeholders who have an interest in helping with this study. The goal of the CAC is to advise the Department on community views with all views represented. The CAC will be an interactive working group which will play a significant role in shaping the needs study. The first CAC meeting will be scheduled this summer. If you are interested in serving on the CAC, please complete the on-line comment form or contact Brad Brumbaugh, P.E., PennDOT Project Manager.

The next public meeting for the project will be scheduled in the Fall of 2008 and will include a presentation of the draft Needs Study document.
